I hope you're no longer with this rapist. I hope you've broken it off with him. Understand this, when you're drinking you cannot consent. Period. End of story. What he did was criminal. It wasn't your fault, even if you were drinking. Always remember that. What I will say here is that you're absolutely right about being too weak to fend off or fight off an assault. With each drink a person has (especially a woman), the risk for sexual assault goes up exponentially, in part because of the depressant effects on the body. Alcohol does not just affect the brain, it diffuses into every cell of the body. Not only is is difficult to say no when drinking (and guys know this), it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain your balance, strength and cognitive functions. Again, it's NEVER the victim's fault for any kind of assault. What you can do is understand the risks associated with alcohol, and then make choices for yourself that are less risky. At this point, I do hope you'll consider seeking out some form of counselling in order to help you deal with all this. Consider contacting the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). They have advocates available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week who can provide crisis intervention, escape planning ( if necessary), information and referrals to victims or anyone calling on their behalf.
