It's possible someone in your family found out about the abuse and threatened your cousin into dropping "off the face of the earth". You might never know for sure. But it does seem odd that he would just disappear like that without provocation of some sort.

Pedophiles don't just stop. He's likely still abusing others. The idea that he's with a 16-year-old is alarming. If she has a younger sibling, he might be going with this 16-year-old in order to gain access.

Right now it's important to deal with YOUR issues. If you're still in counselling, don't lie about what has happened to you and what you're feelings and emotions are about it all. Healing can only happen if you're being honest, because when you lie about it, it's based in shame, guilt and self-blame. And even though you did things yourself, you were too young to understand what exactly it was you were doing. You may well have known it was wrong, but you were young and vulnerable and did what felt good. At that age, you couldn't not be held responsible. You were simply acting out what was done to you.

So please, be honest with your counsellor. It really is the kindest thing you can do for yourself.

I send you loving healing energy, Lyzzy. Thank you for sharing your story.
