To Maureen:
by: Darlene Barriere - Healing Coach

Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.

Of course you self medicate. Who wouldn't when everyone around you either turned a blind eye or put you in more serious trouble. You are a product of what you learned in order to survive. The problem now is that the very thing that got you through all that abuse and abandonment and rejection is now bringing about dysfunction in areas of your life you probably don't want. Self medication has turn into self destruction. There is a way back, but it means making the choice to do something different. And when you're ready, you will. But not until you're absolutely tired of dealing with what you're dealing with now. The change must come from within you, Maureen. Nothing I say will make a bit of difference, until you decide you've had enough of what's happening in your life now. Reaching out and sharing your story here is step one. The next step is up to you. Do I want healing more than I want the self medication, is the question to ask yourself.

I send you love from every fiber of my being.

(In Arizona) You CAN go back and file criminal charges for sexual molestation on your step-dad there is no time limit on sexual abuse... and sue him civilly for Intentional Infliction of emotional Duress, PTSD, Depriving You of Your Childhood, ETC.

[A Point of Clarity: Although Arizona does not have a special statute of limitations for civil sexual abuse cases, they apply the standard personal injury, SOL. Sexual abuse claims must be filed within: Two years of the act, OR Within two years of the victim’s 18th birthday (for childhood sexual abuse claims).]

You need a good therapist to help you work through your past abuse. You need to work on yourself instead of self destruction through drugs and/or alcohol. You are not defined by what happened to you, but by who you choose to become!

You have the Power to change anything in your life that YOU choose to change.
