Indeed, they NEVER forget!
by: Darlene Barriere

Most reasonable people would be greatly distressed to learn that in the face of rampant sexual abuse at the hands of priests the world over, a high profile cleric could even HINT that a 50-year-old could not remember being molested as a child. When children are molested, it matters not their age; they often remember every vile detail, and as such, endure years—decades even—of suffering. As adults they desperately try to forget, but cannot.

Abuse Sharpens Awareness
by: Robert P.

I just have to respond to this subject because my childhood abuse clearly effected my own memories. At the time of my abuse, my mind and body became EXTREMELY ALERTED to the dangers I was facing. Every detail of my surroundings became sharper and clearer than ever before or since for that mater. For many years afterwards I could see my abuser's face so detailed I could count the wrinkles in her face. No other images ever remained so clearly in my memory. The images did eventually fade but it took over 30+ years. The abuses have never been forgotten and still haunt me to this day, over sixty years later. How can we remember? How could we forget. Our whole body was put on alert, recording every tormenting moment.
