It sounds as though someone else who witnessed this contacted the police. Disturbing that even though the officers saw what they saw, they accepted the woman's denials. But you see, we live in a society where it is acceptable to strike a helpless child for so-called discipline. THIS is where the problem lies. If this woman had done what she did to a full-grown adult, someone who could defend him/herself, the officers would have cuffed her, taken her to jail and likely charges would have been laid. But do this to a child, and all bets are off. People do terrible things behind closed doors. When they are doing awful things to children in public, the question becomes, what are they doing in private. What are they doing that could seriously harm the child. It is when good people do nothing that injustices continue to occur. If everyone took the approach your husband took (and sadly, many do), then what kind of a society would we live in. You were the one who wanted to do the right thing.

The police are one agency to contact. Child Protection Services can also be called, in conjunction with the authorities. You can also try to escalate the complaint with the police, but there are no guarantees of what will happen. Consider going to the newspaper and either write an editorial about what you witnessed and/or try to get the paper to investigate. Freida, continue to always act on what you see. Do what you can for the one who cannot do for themselves. That's what being a part of a community is all about. I send you and that little girl love, light and healing energy. Thank you for sharing this story with my visitors and me.
