Most definitely, torturous long term child abuse can stunt or delay brain development. But we are now learning that the brain has the capacity to heal itself, even from the worst of abuses, given the opportunity. Consider looking into the work of Dr Daniel G Amen, if you haven't already done so. You've already proven that your brain can overcome the horrific adversity you faced; in the telling of your story, it comes out quite clear that you are intelligent and very articulate. And as far as I'm concerned, you were anything BUT a weakling as a little boy. I see you as amazingly STRONG to have survived the torture at the hands of a sick and warped excuse for a human being. And then to have to deal with the betrayal and abandonment of the woman who gave birth to you...it all points to strength, Tom. I see that. Others will see that. I hope YOU see that. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.

 Such uncontrolled sadism

Tom, what your so-called parents did to you was pathetic and ungrateful because they are truly twisted, warped, confused, cruel and sadistic in their own ways of thinking...and they should've known better and loved and cherished you. They didn't deserve to have such a wonderful son like you; you didn't deserve to have such uncaring, unloving, twisted, sick, confused, cruel, ruthless, sadistic parents; you deserved the parents who would've loved and cherished you...and even protected you from harm. As for your "mom", I am just as disgusted by her reactions towards you being tortured by her husband; I hate women who choose men over their own children because children should always come first. I hope that you will someday try counselling.
