Family can be our greatest asset or they can be our greatest liability. When family refuses to acknowledge the truth of abuse it's typically because they can't wrap their heads around the horrors that can be inflicted by the people they know and love. It would mean accepting responsibility for their part in allowing it to go on. And for them, it tears too much at the fabric of what they believe. So they would much rather demonize the victim. In this way, they can stay attached to their own convoluted story. There's more to this, more factors involved, but too many to mention within the scope of this comment. But you know what happened. You know the horrors that you endured at the hands of the people who were their to protect you and keep you safe from harm. They were the ones doing the harm. And though they never had to face justice, just remember that what happens or doesn't happen to them doesn't have to have anything to do with your healing. Don't be dependent on what their lives are like in order to walk your own healing path. If you are dependent on that, you will never be free of them. You will always be connected and controlled by them. Break that connection and control by taking your power back. Find purpose in what you endured. Find ways to be grateful for what you have in your life now. And keep making a great life for yourself, without the family who are so quick to betray and abandon. You have it in you, Robert. I send you love, light and healing energy. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
