TALK to someone...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Raven, part of a mother's job is to make sure her child is safe, and part of a mother's job is to learn from her mistakes. Your mother made choices that put you, her precious little girl, at-risk. I can certainly appreciate that you want to protect her and her feelings...but Raven, you're 16 years old; protecting your mother is not your job. She needs to know what happened to you so that she can make sure it never happens again. I know you love your mother, and I believe she loves you. No mother WANTS to hear that her child was abused, but MOST mothers would still expect to be told.

If you really and truly feel as though you cannot talk to your mother, then talk to an adult you trust: a teacher, a school counsellor, a church elder, perhaps a friend's mother. Or consider contacting Child Help at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453). They are staffed 24/7 with professionally trained counsellors who will listen to you. They are not a reporting agency, although they can help you through the process of reporting if you decide to disclose the abuse that Tony inflicted on you. Since I don't know where you live, I can't tell you the statute of limitations for reporting child abuse; but the people at Child Help will be able to tell you that. Tony sexually assaulted you, Raven; it is quite likely that he is sexually assaulting other young girls. Regardless of whether or not you report what he did to you, you're worth getting some kind of help for yourself. You really are. Don't let what this perverted excuse for a man did to you ruin your life or the relationship you have with your mother. He's not worth it.
