So glad you told . . .
by: Darlene Barriere - webmaster

I'm delighted that you are now in a safe and loving environment, Katelyn, and that you're happy. You deserve that happiness.

As for what you lived before moving in with your dad, your mother should have protected you from the abuse, Katelyn. It's not just that it shouldn't have happened in the first place; your mother's boyfriend is a criminal for the acts he committed against you—he should be locked up for the rest of his years. It's the fact that your mother's job was to keep you safe from harm. It doesn't matter that she was at work when he was brutally assaulting you. YOU were her first and foremost responsibility. She failed you, Katelyn, she failed you miserably.

You mentioned being physically abused to the point of having to go to the hospital . . . the system let you down when the authorities didn't remove you from the home at that time. Blaming you was an outrage. I sincerely hope you don't blame yourself. You told when you could tell; and for that you should be very proud of yourself. Because telling is one of the most frightening experiences a child or youth can go through. Good job! And welcome aboard.

I was once abused as well and I have to tell you, it was hard for me to talk about it. I have now reached the time that I can talk. Doing this wasn't easy. I needed help in everything, and although I would cry about it all, it felt good to finally tell my story. I believed in myself and all of you should too.

Thanks
