You did so well by telling your mother. Thank goodness she believed you!

Beyond that, it was your mother's responsibility to ensure your safety. She should never have left you with her boyfriend. She needs to be held accountable and has to answer for that.

Whatever consequences were doled out to the ex, he deserved it. It's not your responsibility that he lost his job and that he cannot leave Canada. He's a criminal for raping a child; he deserves to be treated as one. Don't for one second blame yourself or feel sorry for him; he certainly didn't think about what was going to happen to you when he was raping you.

I sincerely hope you are taking steps toward healing, perhaps through some form of counselling, Courtney.
